Hey Justin, Never a bad call to take a break.
I force myself to take breaks regularly, as much as I love work, I always come back fresh with new ideas. Have you heard the axe story, really inspirational.

This is an enlightening post, I just stumbled upon it now.

With your experience in the VC and entrepreneurial industry; how often do S.A companies get VC funding?

“Ideas are pretty commoditised these days, so it’s almost a certainty that a few other people out there have already thought of the same business idea as you, and are probably even starting it up already.” This might just be from a bit of ignorance on my part, but I’m finding that most entrepreneurs – in S.A again – have great ideas without good business models behind them. What do you find hinders entrepreneurs from acquiring funding or their enterprises?

Do you think that because we (possibly just “I”) are still new to VC funding that there’s a buzz without there being adequate knowledge and understanding between what banks and VCs do?

In some cases yes but for the ULTIMATE sports car not really. Companies like Ferrari, Aston etc. know whats good for us. We shouldn’t be allowed to decide.

Yep, the R44 to Kleinmond is amazing. Excellent road surface (was retarred in 1995), beautiful scenery, and many places to stop & snap some photos or have a rest / swim along the way. It is a very involving drive, requiring the driver to maintain constant concentration. The way back is even more challenging, as the sharpest curves are then on the inside “track”. Beware of understeer (or in my case, oversteer!). A couple of falling rocks or baboons make this drive feel similar to Chappies, not to mention giving you the opportunity for a quick and serious brake test…
